News for travel writers: I’m going to be offering my short travel writing course again, through the Writer’s Barn in Shelburne, Vermont. Here are the specifics from the catalogue:
• Travel Writing with Tim Brookes
Six Tuesdays, 6:30-8pm, Jan. 26, Feb. 2, 9, 16, 23, and Mar 1
Nowadays everyone has a travel blog, but very few travel blogs are worth reading: they don’t give the reader a sense of the sights and smells of the places visited, the conversations with locals, the excitement and strangeness of the moment, the insights and reflections offered by the experience as a whole. This short course will expand your sense of what travel writing is all about, and how to convey the full richness of your explorations.
Tim Brookes is Director of the Professional Writing Program at Champlain College. His travel writing has appeared in National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, Outside, US Airways Attache, Southwest Airlines Spirit, and numerous other publications. He is the author of two travel memoirs, Thirty Percent Chance of Enlightenment, and A Hell of a Place to Lose a Cow, which was cited by Booklist and the New York Times as one of the best travel books of 2001.
