For several years now, my book The Driveway Diaries has been in limbo: all the copies that were printed had been sold (yes, this is a possibly unique example of a book that was published and sold out) and no more were to be had, except used copies stamped something like PROPERTY OF KING COUNTY LIBRARIES SEATTLE WA.
This was a pity, as the book was well read and well loved, and people have been requesting copies on a steady-trickle basis. I promised myself that as soon as I had the time I’d republish it, in an expanded second edition that tells the story of why I finally left the dirt road in Essex Center, Vermont, and recounts the sad fate of my beloved pond.
The rights have reverted to me from the previous publisher, Turtle Point Press, and I’m now in the process of re-editing the contents and adding the epilogue stories. I think a new cover design is in order and perhaps a new page design, but the revised second edition should be out by May.
In the meantime, the amazing students of the Champlain College Publishing Initiative are adding a whole new dimension to the book. Here’s an update from Shea Leading:
Over the next three months, Team Audio endeavors to produce two collections of audio recordings: first, an audiobook for the second edition of Tim Brookes’ The Driveway Diaries in the form of podcasts, and second, selected poetry written and read by Warren Baker and published on his website. In addition, we’d also like to produce an audiobook app proof-of-concept for The Driveway Diaries and typography/text videos for the poetry recordings. Our primary objective, so far, has been to schedule a master class with Pete Engisch of Ad Astra Recording, which we have finally accomplished and set-up for Thursday, Feb. 6. Throughout this process, we’re also going to be working with Spencer Martin, a Sonic Arts major, who will help Team Audio and our clients through the recording process. After our master class, we will be able to set up a more concrete timeline for the remainder of these projects.
Stay tuned!
